Steve O'Keefe
Attorney
Steve’s entire legal career has been spent in the area of medical negligence, personal injury and wrongful death. He has tried cases involving doctors, hospitals, and nursing homes throughout Ohio. Throughout his professional life, Steve has worked to achieve the best possible result for every client he represents. Steve has been a top trial lawyer for over 30 years, with licenses to practice law in Ohio and various Federal Courts.
Steve began his career as a defense lawyer defending medical malpractice, cerebral palsy, insurance defense, and wrongful death claims. He is adept at evaluating both sides of a case, and he knows the strategies the other side will try to defeat your case. This experience on the defense side, combined with the knowledge of how the insurance industry evaluates claims, gives Steve a unique position when handling your case.
Mr. O’Keefe’s peers selected him as a member of the prestigious Ohio Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates. Less than one hundred attorneys statewide have been selected for the Ohio Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates. He has also been voted by his peers as an Ohio Super Lawyer in the area of Medical Malpractice and Personal Injury every year since 2006. Less than five percent of attorneys in Ohio are honored as Super Lawyers. An even smaller percentage of lawyers are awarded this honor in the narrow category of Medical Malpractice and Personal Injury.
Mr. O’Keefe was the Ohio Association of Justice Chair of the Medical Malpractice section from 2007 through 2009. He is a past Southwest Ohio District Representative to the Board of The Ohio Association for Justice.
Steve frequently receives invitations to lecture and educate other attorneys on medical malpractice and personal injury nationally and throughout Ohio. He has lectured on the topic of medical negligence to the Ohio Association of Hospital Risk Managers, the National Hospital Insurance Forum, Physician Insurers Association of America, Nationwide Children’s Hospital Grand Rounds, Kettering College of Nursing, the Dayton Bar Association, the Clark County Bar Association, the Warren County Bar Association, the Ohio Association of Justice, the Hamilton County Association of Trial Attorneys, the University of Dayton School of Law, the National Business Institute, various hospitals, as well as many medical malpractice insurance companies.
Steve has had tremendous success for his clients across Ohio in many complex cases involving medical negligence, personal injury, birth injury and wrongful death. These include an 8.3 million dollar jury verdict for the failure of a physician to order necessary tests resulting in severe brain damage, a 1.1 million dollar jury verdict for a neurosurgeon’s improper placement of drain during brain surgery resulting in the patient’s death, a 6.8 million dollar settlement for man catastrophically injured in a motorcycle crash, a 2.6 million dollar settlement when a nurse failed to check blood sugar levels of diabetic patient resulting in permanent brain injury, 1.9 million dollar settlement for delay in diagnosis of cervical cancer, a million dollar settlement for failure to tell a patient of abnormal EKG results in Emergency Room resulting in the patient suffering a preventable heart attack.
