Did you have spine surgery and fusion and wake up worse off?
Not all spine surgeons are trained alike or have the same skill set. Crandall & Pera Law has taken in an increasing number of cases involving lumbar spine surgery where the patient goes into the surgery with pain and tingling and comes out paralyzed due to the orthopedic surgeon or neurosurgeon’s negligence. These include cases against Dr. Jamal Taha, who operates in Dayton, Ohio. However, we are seeing this unfortunate trend of injuries all over Ohio and into Kentucky.
Many spine surgeons recommend performing aggressive and risky multi-level spine fusions, rather than just herniated disc removals at one or two levels. Spine fusion surgery is much more complex and usually involves the placement of what is called an interbody fusion spacer. This is an implant that is designed to stabilize the spine and help maintain proper vertebral height, however it must be placed properly and with great care. Crandall & Pera Law is experiencing an influx of new calls that reveal many spine surgeons are negligently inserting this spacer at the wrong angle and also negligently leaving the spacer in the wrong position within the spinal canal at the end of the procedure. In both cases, the improper angle and placement immediately crush the surrounding nerves that control the sensory and function of the legs, bowel and bladder.
