Dr. Daniel Elskens is a neurosurgeon who came to Sandusky in 2018 to work for Firelands Medical Center. Firelands Physician Group employed Dr. Elskens, and the Firelands system promoted him as a competent and safe neurosurgeon. Unfortunately, these claims were not true. After numerous negligent surgical outcomes and a high complication rate, Dr. Elskens quickly shuttered his office and left Sandusky in the Spring of 2022. By that time, he had been implicated in his past position in a number of surgical errors and for performing surgery that was not indicated. No one in Sandusky or the surrounding communities knew any of this while Dr. Elskens was here. Firelands Medical Center promoted him to the citizens they treated as a safe and “cutting-edge neurosurgeon.”
